On Nov. 27, Ms. Sumia Mohamed Abukashawa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Republic of the Sudan led a delegation to NAU. Delegation members are Ahmed Eltayeb Ahmed Ibrahim, secretary general of Sudan National Technology and Education Committee, and presidents from Omdurman Islamic University, Kassala University and Red Sea University. The purpose of the visit is to sign the Letter of Intent with NAU, and visit the Sudanese students studying at NAU.
Xu Xiang, NAU Vice President, met with the delegation. She introduced the history, development plan and international strategy of NAU, especially the cooperation with Kenya, Sudan, South Africa and other African countries in education, scientific research and technology extension. Recent years have witnessed huge progress in the cooperation and exchange between NAU and universities in Sudan and NAU has established inter-institutional relations with Al Zaeim Al Azhari University and the University of Bahri in Sudan, quoted from Xu Xiang. There are more than 20 Sudanese students pursuing graduate degrees at NAU. Xu Xiang hopes this visit will deepen mutual understanding and foster the cooperation between NAU and universities in Sudan.?xml:namespace>
Abukashawa said, higher education in Sudan began to expand since 1990 and it has contributed greatly to the national economic and social development. At the same time, higher education in Sudan faces a number of challenges, such as insufficient teaching resources, and the quality of education needs to be improved urgently. Therefore, Sudan government highly values exchange and cooperation with the top-level universities in China. She also hopes that more public universities in Sudan establish collaborative relations with NAU and carry out long-term cooperation in education and extension.
Xu Xiang and Abukashawa signed the Letter of Intent on behalf of the NAU and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Sudan.
