On August 15, the 2018 Academic Ranking of World Universities was released to rank the world’s top 500 research universities. A total of 51 Chinese universities were listed. Following our debut on the list of top 500 universities last year, NAU again made it into the list, ranked in the 301st to 400th range, which is a testimony to our growing overall strength and global influence.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai Ranking, is the first ranking of universities worldwide as well as one of the most influential and authoritative list of universities around the world. It is widely reported and cited. Since its inception in 2003, the rankings has been published annually for 16 years. It measures the academic performance of universities against indicators including alumni and faculty members as Nobel laureates and Field medalists, highly cited scientists, papers published in Nature and Science, papers indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Science Citation Index, and per-capital academic performance.
